Dog clipper blade chart.

What each A5 blade leaves, in inches and millimeters, and why snap-on comb numbers don’t carry over between brands.

A5 blade lengths

Andis, Oster, and Heiniger publish the same lengths for these A5 blades.

  • Skip-tooth and finish blades of the same number leave the same length: 7 and 7F, 5 and 5F, 4 and 4F. Andis writes FC.
  • Not Wahl. Wahl’s Competition blades list their own lengths.

Snap-on comb numbers aren’t a standard.

The same number can be a different length on another brand’s set. A #5 comb, for example:

What a #5 snap-on comb leaves, by set
Set#5 leaves
Wahl US stainless set (3390-100)1/8″
Andis Universal small set, 9 pieces (12860)3/16″ (5 mm)
Wahl UK competition stainless combs, which number upward (#1 = 3 mm … #8 = 25 mm)16 mm

So go by the length printed on your own comb, not the number.

Andis Universal snap-on comb sizes

Andis’s small and large Universal sets, longest first. These are Andis’s lengths; other sets number differently.

In Japan, combs are sold in millimeters.

Japanese suppliers list attachment combs by length, and title A5 blades with the number and the millimeters, such as “7F 3.2mm”. Heiniger’s 9-piece set:
